Welcome to Jaden Yang's personal webpage, a former undergraduate student in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management atUC Berkeley and a graduate student in the Department of Geography and Environment at London School of Economics and Political Science.
I got interested in the environment and its societal dimensions when I first read Jonathan Safron-Foer’s Eating Animals. This book demonstrated to me the realities of factory farming, of which I was unaware. Factory farming causes a lot of soil, water, and air pollution, and I was totally shocked since I enjoy eating animals. I could not believe that technologies created by humans and developed for our convenience could destroy the limited natural resources we have been given. Also, most of electricity generated from burning fossil fuel emits carbon dioxide in the air which accelerates global warming. I believe creating a new method of generating electricity from burning fossil fuel was one of the greatest scientific revolutions. However, I realized that environmental concerns are caused by humans, and I believe environmental policy is a practical way to reduce environmental issues.
